When you were a small child, you probably colored with Crayola brand crayons. Getting a new box of 64 colors was just like Christmas! As you got a little older, you may have discovered the joys of colored pencils - aka "pencil crayons" - and your first brand was probably Crayola, too. When I first got back into coloring as an adult, my very first purchase consisted of two things: a simple coloring book filled with mandalas and a box of 100 Crayola colored pencils. I still use them from time to time, and I keep them in this cute little wicker basket my boyfriend found on sale at Hobby Lobby for about $1.

My collection of Crayola colored pencils

There's no denying that Crayola colored pencils aren't the best in the world. When we start digging deeper into products and reviews - or when you purchase your very first set of Faber-Castell Polychromos, Marco Renoir, or Prismacolor brands - you'll discover why. There's nothing inherently wrong with them; they certainly do what they were meant to do. They just can't compare with artist-grade pencils. Not on any level. In this video, we'll take a look at how Crayola colored pencils perform. Later, we'll compare them to some other brands, such as Prang, Prismacolor Premiere, Prismacolor Scholar, Marco Renoir, and even a store brand or two. Even so, if you're on a budget and you want to try your hand with colored pencils, Crayola colored pencils are great tools for beginners.
